Area News Bald Eagles have come back to Miami State Lake! Upwards of 15 birds have been seen at one time amid the previous half a month. The vast raptors utilize the tall sycamore and cotton wood trees along the Marais Des Cygnes River for sustaining and loafing close to the lake. Bald Eagles were a continuous winter guest to the lake before the lake being depleted for repairs in 2000. This is the first run through substantial quantities of falcons have been seen since the repairs were finished.

Wildlife common on the area includes a variety of waterfowl, songbirds, furbearers, squirrel, white tailed deer, turkey, and bobwhite quail. The steep timbered hillsides are a mix of hickory, oaks, maple, ash, and elm.
