Area News Bald Eagles have come back to Miami State Lake! Upwards of 15 birds have been seen at one time amid the previous half a month. The vast raptors utilize the tall sycamore and cotton wood trees along the Marais Des Cygnes River for sustaining and loafing close to the lake. Bald Eagles were a continuous winter guest to the lake before the lake being depleted for repairs in 2000. Wildlife common on the area includes a variety of waterfowl, songbirds, furbearers, squirrel, white tailed deer, turkey, and bobwhite quail. The steep timbered hillsides are a mix of hickory, oaks, maple, ash, and elm.
