10 hours ago Former TCU DT Damonic Williams commits to Oklahoma over Texas, others
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports The quest to add more depth to the interior defensive line suffered another post-spring setback. The Texas Longhorns weren’t able to land another defensive tackle from the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday when former TCU Horned Frogs standout Damonic Williams committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. BREAKING: Former TCU Standout DL Damonic Williams has Committed to Oklahoma, he tells @on3sportsThe 6’2 320 DL totaled 60 Tackles, 9.5 TFL, & 4.5 Sacks in his time at TCUWas the Top Available DL in the Portal (per On3 Industry)https://t.co/Yq4pZNCDu3 pic.twitter.com/Ebe1zvSKX1— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) May 3, 2024 Since entering the portal shortly after the spring transfer window opened, Williams took visits to Austin in addition to trips to Oklahoma, Missouri, and LSU. In recent days, reports emerged from Orangebloods that Williams was seeking to maximize his NIL earnings at a price the Longhorns were unlikely to match. Following Williams’ official visit to the Forty Acres last week, his camp disavowed a report that Texas was the “clear leader,” and the recruitment never seemed to trend in favor of the Horns after that point. I wonder what the final NIL price for Damonic Williams ended up being. Pretty sure there was a 700K+ NIL deal on the table. The word on the street was his rep/agent was looking for 7 figures.Texas wasn't going to do that. Did OU?— Geoff Ketchum (@gkketch) May 3, 2024 Williams is ranked as the No. 103 player and the No. 10 defensive lineman in the portal, according to 247Sports. A consensus three-star prospect out of Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany in the 2022 recruiting class, Williams was ranked as the No. 541 player nationally and the No. 77 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Williams signed with TCU over 16 other offers, including Michigan, Penn State, USC, and Washington, taking an official visit to Cal and committing to Cal before flipping to the Horned Frogs on Early Signing Day in 2021. Williams made an immediate impact upon arriving in Fort Worth, starting 15 games and recording 27 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks as a freshman before notching 33 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks in 2023, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition. Since defensive tackle Jay Toia decided to return to UCLA despite visiting Texas for the Orange-White game, Williams was the remaining public transfer portal target for the Longhorns after Wildcats transfer Bill Norton committed in late April. Sarkisian made it clear following the spring-ending scrimmage that adding depth at the position remained a priority, but there aren’t any other known targets at defensive tackle at the time of Williams’ commitment to the Sooners.
